The Best Volleyball Cheers & Chants (For all Situations)
If you search for basketball or football cheers and chants you are spoiled for choice, with hundreds if not thousands of ones to choose from. Volleyball cheers and chants, on the other hand, work a little differently for three reasons:
- Volleyball isn’t as popular as other sports
- Not every school requires cheerleaders to attend games
- Cheers and chants must be short due to the quick nature of the game where points and the time in-between points do not last very long
For these reasons it can be hard to come up with good cheers and chants.
Don’t worry, though, we’ve got you covered for every game situation, including before the game, serving, blocking, spiking, kills, tipping and shanking. It also helps that quite a lot of the cheers and chants are quite funny and creative too.
Note: You’ve Got Spirit!: Cheers, Chants, Tips, and Tricks is a great book to refer to.

Pointers Before You Start the Cheers & Chants
Volleyball Terminology
If you’re not familiar with all of the following terminology, such as spikes and kills, you’re in luck!
We’ve included a short definition of the term, as we know that many readers aren’t too familiar with the terminology of the game. This way you will know the suitable time to perform a chant; otherwise it can become quite embarrassing!
When not to Cheer & Chant
Before we get into all of the various cheers and chants, it is also important to note that while they are a fun way for cheerleaders, spectators and even players to get involved and pump up the team, you should always keep them in line with the spirit of the game.
There are a couple of situations where chants and cheers shouldn’t be performed.
-
-
- When a player is hurt
- When there is a dispute with the referee and/or the officials are trying to determine the right call
-
How Cheers & Chants Should Be Performed
The following pointers primarily apply to cheerleaders; although spectators can certainly benefit from a few of them and should keep them in mind.
While a lot of people are guilty of thinking that cheers and chants are all about shouting them as loud as you can and waving your arms in the process, this isn’t the way to do it.
Find a Cheer
The first step is to find a suitable cheer. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered in this aspect, as we have listed cheers for several situations that are common in volleyball games.
Don’t be scared to look at the cheers found on this page and to modify them in any way you choose too. You can use the cheers for inspiration, or even mix and match them as long as it makes sense to do so.
Memorize the Cheer
Memorizing the cheer is unfortunately the most boring part, but it is also the most important too. We recommend writing down the cheer a few times until it sticks in your head. It may also be a good idea to print out a list of cheers you want to perform and refer to them every time there is a bit of downtime in the game, such as in-between sets or officiating calls.
Perfect the Motions
Motions, just as much as the words, make the cheers and chants. While cheerleading practice is the time to learn the correct motions, it is important that you also perfect them in your own time, such as in front of the mirror at home. Nizagara 100 mg pills http://curtspharmacy.com/nizagara
Use Your Voice Correctly
Using your voice correctly for each cheer is another very important aspect that you must get right. It is so important because you need the players and fans to hear you. The players so they can become motivated and pumped up, and the fans for the same reason, but also because you ultimately want their involvement too.
Many make the mistake of singing the cheers, but make sure not to do that. Instead, use your voice from your diaphragm, lower you voice so it travels more, and pronounce each word clearly so everyone can understand you.
It’s also important to show emotion when cheering, such as keeping a smile on your face so the fans and players really believe that you are supporting the team and are there because you want to be, not just because you have to be.
Pre-Game Cheers & Chants
No matter if the players on the team you are supporting are playing in their first or hundredth game there is usually a bit of nervousness, particularly when it comes to high school games.
Therefore, the following cheers and chants will pump the players up and get them in a positive state of mind where they know that they can count on your support from the very beginning.

During the Game Cheers & Chants
So by this point you’ve suitably pumped up the players and/or the fans and the game has just begun. Now is the time to pull out the following cheers for whenever your team wins a point.
As you read through these cheers and chants you will notice that they are shorter than the ones found in the pre-game section. While you could get away with longer chants before the game began to pump everyone up, it’s important that during the game they are short and to the point – as explained in the beginning, this is due to the quick nature of the game, so there isn’t as much time to cheer on your team.
Serving/Ace
In Volleyball an Ace is when the server serves the ball to the other team and it either lands in the opponent’s court without being touched, OR the ball is touched but the player receiving the ball is unable to keep the ball in play.
Check out the following cheers and chants for when an ace is served:
-
-
- Kiss my ace!
- (Player’s name) ain’t no buttercup
She knows how to serve it up
Watch her make that volleyball soar
She’s gonna help our team to score! - Find the empty space
Serve that ace - Wooooosh (slide stepping in one direction) what was that?
Woooooosh (slide stepping on the floor in the opposite direction) you hear that?
Never worry, never fear
That’s just (server’s name)’s ball flying past your ear! - You better duck
You better hide
Cuz (server’s name) is serving to your side - Nowhere to run to
Nowhere to hide
Look out now
(Server’s name) is serving to your side - Here’s our server, (player)’s her name!
Watch her ACE and win this game!
Goooooo, (player)! - Uno, dos, uno dos tres
This next serve’s gonna be an ACE! - O-V-E-R, Over the net (clap twice)
Serve it, serve it
Go (girl’s name that’s serving)! - Toss it up,
Spike it down
Watch that ball
Bounce off that ground - Ace, Ace baby!
- You just got served!
- You just got a taste of our A-C-E Ace!
- We want another one,
Just like the other one
Ace ace ace ace ace - Ace

Block
It’s good to cheer after a block attempt is made, but even better when the block is successful.
A successful block occurs when a player on the front-row (or multiple players) is able to jump and make contact with the ball so it is stopped before or just after it crosses over the net. In simpler terms, the ball is deflected back to the hitter’s court.
-
-
- “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!”
- “She said NO!!”
- “De-NIED!!”
- RRROOOFFF!”
- “Shingle, Shingle, ROOF!”
- [Player who blocked] “BRICK”
[Rest of the team] “WALL”
-
Kill
A kill in volleyball is defined as any occasion when an attack by any player on the team directly leads to a point being won. The point is won when the ball is not able to be returned to the opposing side.
-
-
- Bump, set, spike it
That’s the way we like it! - Jump up and hit it
That’s the way we get the
POINT! - (clap clap) (stomp stomp) kill!
- Aaaahhh
Kill kill kill - Slam bam
You can’t block that
- Bump, set, spike it
-
Spike
In volleyball an occurrence of a spike is regularly regarded as being the most attractive way to earn a point and can set the fans wild, while also resulting in a great morale boost for the team, particularly if fans cheer and chant after the spike. Many refer to spiking as the “slam dunk” of volleyball.
A spike is simply defined as scoring a point by smashing the ball, generally at a downward angle, over the net with some force.

BOOM - You gotta bump it
To set it
To spike it
To score - You try to get
All in our space

Shank
In Volleyball a shank is when a player makes a wayward pass that one of the player’s teammates is unable to play, thereby losing the point for their team.
-
-
- The crowd is mild, but that ball went wild
Shank ball! Shank ball! - To the window
To the wall
We saw you
Shank that ball. - Shank you very much
- To the windows
To the stands
We saw you shank that
Off your hands
- The crowd is mild, but that ball went wild
-
Tip
A tip is simply when a player lightly pushes the ball with their fingers over the net. A tip may not be as exciting as other plays in volleyball, but we’ve still got a couple of tipping chants and cheers for you.

After the Game Cheers & Chants
Just because the game is over it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t continue chanting and cheering. If your team just won then there is nothing better for the players to hear than how appreciated they are for their hard work on the court.
Even if your team just lost, you still want to keep morale high and let them know that you appreciate the effort they put in out there – arguably more so than if the team won.
While the following cheers are perfect if your team just won, refer to chants 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11 in the first section (pre-game cheers) if your team just lost.
-
-
- We’re turning up the heat
‘Cause when it comes to volleyball
We just can’t be beat! - V-is for victory
I SAID V-is for victory
Slice that V
Dot that i
Rock that C-T-O-R-Y - Take it to the limit
Take it to the top
‘Cause we’re the Mighty [team name]
And we can’t be stopped - Excellence, perfection,
Teamwork and success
[Team name] varsity
A step above the rest - We’ll never be defeated
‘Cause we are the best
A step above the rest
- We’re turning up the heat
