Katttttieee:) asked:

I have always wanted to play volleyball for my school, but everyone else has been playing for about two years now and I really need some extra help if I am ever going to make the team and I thought a personal trainer for volleyball would be a great idea. My only problem is, I’ve been searching for one for quite some time now and still no luck.. If someone could please help me I’d really appreciate it! :)

I’ve always been told that volleyball is a team sport so it really isn’t worth getting a personal trainer. But I see your dilemma. I’d call up the coach ASAP and see what you could be doing. They might also have some contacts that would be able to help you with your skills. You should try to get on a club team too. Any time on a court is going to help. Even if you go and play beach volleyball. You can also hit against a wall to help your swing(for hitting and serving). If you really want to catch up with the other girls you have to be extremely dedicated and really push to make yourself better everyday. Good Luck!

JBee is kinda right. There isnt really personal trainers for volleyball. The best thing you can do is get in shape, maybe get with the coach before practices and have her/him help you out with some things you need work on, and maybe join a rec team at a local gym.

As someone who has played professional volleyball, I can tell you that there are personal trainers for volleyball, so the above answers are wrong. It may depend on where in the country you are located. In California, you can find personal trainers for volleyball easily, if you know where to look.

If you are looking to play for your school and want to get better, the best advice I could give is to find a club team to play on outside of school. There are so many club teams at all different levels, you can find one that is appropriate. There you will be able to get lots of practice and coaching. You’ll get more bang for your buck.

While it sounds alluring, getting a personal volleyball trainer is really not the best option. The ones that are out there are geared to top level players. If you are dead set on getting one on one training, I’d suggest talking to a coach at a local university and see if one or his/her players would help you out. They’d certainly be able to help you out with the basics and they’d be able to see what you needed to do in order to make your local school team. I’m sure a coach would love to connect you with a player.

G’luck.

My suggestion would be to contact your local USA Volleyball Region, if you live in the states. If you’re not sure what region you are in go to. Click on the region that governs your area and try to contact the Junior Player Rep, or equivalent board position. This person should have information on coaches giving lessons, or be able to contact someone who would know. Good luck and keep trying, it will pay off if you find a good instructor.
