Satsuma asked:

I have volleyball practice for only 2 hours but for some reason the time goes by at a snail pace. Usually I really like playing volleyball but I find myself always getting bored. What can I do to make the time go by faster, or atleast distract myself from the time?

Maybe this means your getting bored with it. Time to go find something new?! It will only go by faster if your having fun…

Maybe volleyball isn’t interesting for you anymore and it is time to pick up a new sport.

A practical joke here and there can break up the monotony of practice, although, your coach may not approve.

If you can’t zone out all you’re left with is changing your practice to something you like doing, such as practice games.

I am assuming your a player. If so, then I would suggest that you let your coach know that your experiencing too much down time.
You could take initiative and work on something that doesnt pertain to your normal postion. For example if your an OH strong side, you could work on the OH weak side or grab a ball and practice your setting. There are numerous benefits to knowing other positions….helps you improve on your all around game among other things.

Is it boring because the drills are to easy or difficult? If it is, you need to go talk to your coach. How many people are on your team? Too many–a lot of standing around. There are tons of possibilities and reasons why you’re bored…Hope you figure it out.
Is volleyball your sport? Maybe you need to find another sport.
Good luck!

I also have practice for two hours and I agree. I love volleyball to death but sometimes practices can be a drag. Usually what helps me is to tell myself not to look at the clock, give suggestions to your coach about a fun drill that you really enjoy doing, make jokes with your friends, and just focus on improving. If you try hard in practice, you’ll get better and when you start to get better, you wanna get even better and time flies when you are having fun! =]

IF Your coach is really strict and you cant talk and stuff then what i do is pace back in forth and think about if the ball comes to me in this position wat im goin to do and stuff like that. i know cause i play that it can be boring some times but if it gets too boring like us studies lol …you could go to sleep if there was a chair then you probably need to find a different sport!? a more up beat one….

are you kidding? i think volleyball practice goes by to fast! I wish it was longer. Or i wish it seemed so. I just love volleyball practice!!

Just have fun and enjoy it. If your having fun then it’ll go by faster. And if it still seems to be going really long then maybe you need to try basketball or something else.

okay..i have the same problem but my practice is for 2hrs and 15mins….i just usually dont look at the clock because we are too busy practicing and working out.but if you look at the clock only when you can…its not too bad..and it helps if you have friends on the team..i do and its great,it really makes me care less because we are having so much fun…and at the end of practice,im usually sad to leave because we are having fun =)=)

I agree with a lot of the others here, those that say to talk to the coach. If I had one of my players come to me and tell me that practices are getting a little boring and that they anted to be challenged, I would think that that player is really interested in being a better player (Otherwise, they would just quit.). I would take that as an opportunity to start doing more advanced things with this player.

Also, it’s quite possible that your coach is bored too and this might be a chance to get to that next level.

It is also quite possible that you are burned out. It’s very common in girls since they play from such a young age. Either way, talking to your coach in a respectful manner is all it will take to fix this. We really aren’t that bad, we coach because we love helping kids.
