I would ask the coach, he/she would be in the best position to see what skills need work. Good luck.

if you are a middle work on jumping, the higher you can jump the better. If you have a blank wall, get a couple pieces of tape. Without jumping, stretch your arm up (with a piece of tape in your hand) and place the tape where your hand stops. Now do that jumping and see the difference. Every day work on trying to beat that higher piece of tape. Also work on your blocking footwork and get the appropriate steps down. Also, work with a setter if you know one and work on a quicker approach in the middle. You want to work on timing and arm swing, learn to snap your wrist and follow thru.

The hardest skill to master in volleyball is passing (Bumping). There is always a lack of quality passers on any team. If you are a great passer they will find a spot for you to play. There are plenty of people who have very successful careers doing nothing but playing defense (passing). If you play in a league with a libero great, if not there are always plenty of middle hitters that can’t pass and need someone to play back row for them.

you should work on how you hit and serve because when you serve it to someone and they hit it on the net the next round come and that person serve it to you and you hit it don’t hit it again because that is how you wont lose the game.

work on being a team player. Serving is also a good skill to have, make sure it’s accurate. But mostly if you practice your skills will improve.

I think passing is the most important part of volleyball because you have to be a strong passer to play.

If you’re Not a very good passer, work on that. It is the most important thing in defensive playing. Just Practice, Practice,Practice and you will improve. I guarantee it. Good Luck! I hope I helped.

serving and passing

the best thing you can do is to get low when you are passing the ball. when serving, you have to make the toss absolutely perfect. have some people who were on the team, or who played last year help you. dont be shy ask for help. this will also help your social status. and when you make the team, you will already have friends on the team.

hope i helped.
ps let me know how tryouts went. ive played for 4 years and still get nervous at tryouts.
